It's true, some of the glasses do not illuminate in the daylight. They are sleeping.

The disc in the center is a beveled crystal backed with frosted glass.
About half of the glass is iridized.
Note the tiny silver mirrors. There are five of them.
The glass ranges from pale gray to totally black; twilight blue to midnight blue, studded with a star field.
Here's an attempt to show off the mica finish (the polymer between the glass pieces).
It fades from rosy sunset to mystery blue.
